Introducing Megan

By: Megan

Hi Viewers!

Amanda grabbed me and wanted to get me to introduce myself. I’m studying a double degree of Journalism and Asian and International studies. While I hope to work for a fashion magazine someday I’m not really sure what I’d like to do in the future. Amanda is watching me writing this so I better say something nice about her soon before she hurts me. Amanda is what non-christians would identify as a mentor, though if you can speak ‘christianese’, she is my discipler. So really, Amanda kicks my butt about things though she is very nice about it. I was lucky to fulfill one of my life’s dreams and go to Japan in 2008 though I am still not fluent. I looooove Japanese fashion styles, the idea of making my own clothes (even if I haven’t really gotten around to it yet…), and I would like to take better photos as I get older.

As Amanda and I speak to more students on campus, we will hopefully write these interviews here. The first official posted interview is here! Finally! The girl we interviewed is in my Japanese class, and it was the first time I got to talk to her about faith.

Name: Lara
Degree: Linguistics, majoring in Japanese
Favorite place in Brisvegas: Redland Bay
What is love to you: Sharing time with one person, honesty, friendship, and something special.
Why do you think people turn to a religion? “They’re looking for something; guidance perhaps, or an answer about life after death.”

Lara claims to have a belief in a higher power which would make her agnostic. However, when asked whether she would want to know an absolute truth should one exist, she didn’t really care. She feels truth is relative and that there is no absolute truth. Lara falls into the category of people who believe that if you are a ‘good person’, you will go to heaven and felt strongly about the idea of humans putting justice (what she labeled a human characteristic) as part of God’s character as wrong. Like many people these days, Lara seemed slightly aggressive towards evangelist people.

On a more positive side, Lara’s sister is a born-again christian who gives Lara a sense of peace when her sister shares her faith with her.
